  • Towing error message on new 2022 Ford F-350 with Momentum

Hello all, I have a brand new F-350 and a brand new Momentum 351m. I have pulled it twice now. Both times when I hook the truck up to the camper, I keep getting the message "Trailer Right Turn Lamps Fault Check Lamps". There are NO issues with any of the lights. All turn signals, flashers, marker lights and brake lights work just fine. This error message comes on, I will hit the "OK" button, the message goes away for a few seconds or minutes and comes right back. Does anyone have any experience with this error? I don't know if it's a truck or camper trailer issue. I searched online for clues and came up with other folks having the problem but have not seen any solution yet. Any advice out there?

I would try to switch the right and left turn signal wires at the connections at the trailer frame to see if the error message follows the wire swap. If it does, then it may be good to ohm out the side that is failing. Wires, lights, etc. Check grounds.

If the message does not follow the wiring swap, the issue may be at the truck, such as at the 7 way connector or water intrusion at one of the truck connectors.

Cate&Rob -- is this the same error you have on your new truck?
Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, we have nothing to gain should you choose to purchase a product or engage a service we discuss on this forum.

There seems to be a pervasive issue with Ford trucks and their ability to recognize the LED lights that GDRV uses on their RVs. The Fords are programmed to see the resistance of an incandecent bulb. But the LED bulbs have a different resistance and the Ford trucks see this as an error. The error may materialize as a fault on turn signals, or on brake application.

Several owners have reported 100% success in solving this issue by installing a Reece 7-Way adapter when plugging the trailer in. The Reece adapter is part number 20142. I'm attaching a link below. If you purchase the adapter, will you please report if it solved the issue?

I have not had an error related to turn signal. But . . . the same light circuit in the trailer is used for turn signal or brake light. The error message that I am getting seems to be tied to my EoH braking system. I have a "resistor" fix in place, but have not verified that this works while towing. Other recent model Superduty owners have found wiring connection problems in the truck where the truck wiring harnesses connect to the in-box or bumper, trailer electrical connection points.

I know you have a F350, but similar problems have been posted in the Gen14 (i.e. 21 and 22 MY) F150 forums. Though much speculation about LED trailer lights vs old style incandescent (and some solving with resistors), others seem to point to unreliable connections, particularly in the 7 pin. Some success with just seating and reseating 7pin multiple times and ensure it is pushed hard for insert. Others have used CONDUCTIVE grease on the contact blades.

I am having the same issues with similar set up '22 F-350 6.7 DRW King Ranch and '22 Momentum 399TH. The reese adapter is nowhere to be found in the US from my search. I have found resistors to add to turn signal wiring. May add those and see if it remedies the problem.

Question on the 21G, is it a 4 pin or 7 pin connector for lights?

There will be a 7 pin connector on all Grand Design RV's, if that is your question.

I opened my mouth too soon! 3rd time towing and I just got it. Oddly enough I got the error after disconnecting the trailer, not during actual towing.

That was my question, was hypothesizing it could be 4 pin vs. 7 pin, but obviously not the case. I did find the whether the lights are on or off determines if I get the warning. I don't get it with the lights off.
