Should I assume the squeaking and clanging sounds when towing, esp turning are the norm?

Yes sir they are. There may be some mention in the manual for your hitch or some one here may know where the lubrication points are. The chains will creak if you have those and there is not much to do about that. Alos do not forget to lube the bolts on the spring eyes and equalizer if your RV has those on the suspension. If this is left dry it will shorten the lie of those items and also make noise.

Mine is new - no chains, just trunion bars to steel plates.

Ok, I think there are plastic clips that can go on under the stee bars that will quite it down, or even just some grease but it will probably squirt out. Maybe post the brand of hitch and someone here will help you with this that is more in tune to what you are needing.

The paperwork with the brand of WDH is in the camper which isn't at home. However, it came with those heavy nylon clips. Before I tow it again in a week, I'll revisit the manual regarding lube points.
Thanks for reminding me - first hitch like this.

If you are using an Equalizer hitch you can make it totally silent. First the Equalizer hitch must have a thin coating of grease on all sliding metal on metal components at the hitch head ONLY. No grease on the trunnion bars at either end.
For the angle brackets that are mounted to the trailer frame where the trunnion bars rest, use the sway bracket jackets on that end and you will have a completely silent hitch.

We're from Toledo and will be at Cesarlane RV Resort late July, most of August.
The jackets are. installed. About the only part to lube will be the ball and the hitch itself apparently.
              Thanks

With the hitch on the ground, roll it over and look for the metal parts that are showing wear. Make sure these points have a thin layer of grease. I ran into this when our rig was new and realized I was missing a large portion of contact area under the hitch. Once lubed, it quieted down completely.

We just passed through Toledo yesterday after making the no bottom run out of Michigan on Rt 23. On this route, in both directions and from mile marker 4 - 10, I run 70mph (to be courteous) in the left lane.

The Right lane in this stretch of road is not suitable for travel.

I am always amazed at how fast US23 deteriorates after a rebuild. That stretch has been a mess within 5 yrs of complete rebuild at least 3 times in my life. If you come North be prepared, theres a repave between 96 and M59 going on Northbound.
