I am putting this install here as it is a part of my hitch/towing set up. I got the Retrax again as I had the poly version since 2003 on my old truck and it was still working well. They don't sell the poly version for the long bed so this has the aluminum top slats. It also has a high load capacity on the cover so I don't need to worry about snow load. Last it can be locked in any position so I can pull it right up behind the hitch during travel and keep son stuff in the bed protected from rain and prying eyes.
Assembly is straight forward
Attach the bed rails to the canister per the instructions. I found out I am lucky as current production does not allow for the stake pocket cut outs. I found this out as I had a slight defect in the first can (hold the cover) A screw had pulled through. They sent me a new can immediately. Getting the cover out of the old can into the new one was a bit of a pain, but everything is good. I now have some nice thin sheet metal for future projects
Once assembled it was a three old person Job to lift it into place. Its a good tight fit.
I cleaned the bed rails and front cross over and placed some protection to prevent any paint or taillight damage in case of a goof lifting.
Unit in place, All this is required now is set the tail gate clearance per the instructions and attach to lock down clamps per the instructions. The clamps (aluminum) can be see on the bed mat. They go between the nylon adjustment screws on the side of the rail. I found that the factory preset depth's worked, so no adjustment was necessary.
BTW - yes the Bedrug impact bed mat does buckle up as the sun moves across it. Has not been an issue yet. Also there was no issue with the B&W hitch install.
Install complete. Notice how the stake pockets are still usable. Ill go back in a few weeks and check the connections. Works well - now I just need to clean it.
Its an easy project and I believe it will help with fuel mileage and keep things secure..Shop around as deals do pop up. I ordered mine on Black Friday and saved.
Hope this helps
