The chap at the border was very nice, let me cross with WAY over my limit of booze, which is, if you don't know, 1.14 litres of liquor, OR a case of beer per person. You can bring more but can charge you a fee on the amount over.
There was no line at all. Just drove straight up to the window.

Read the regulations on this to be sure. I would not go to a remote location without a rifle personally but some may feel just fine without one. I read about those folks once in a while.

Like Jim, I don't boondock without a rifle or shotgun, but, Im not sure what the rules are regarding a US citizen bringing a hunting type firearm into Canada. You will NOT be allowed to enter Canada with a handgun. You will NOT be allowed to enter with a black rifle - if you have one you know what kind of rifles that covers.
If you are wanting to cross with a hunting rifle or shotgun, PM me and I will find out what is entailed. My brother in law is a border superintendent and I'm a gun guy so I'm sure we will be able to figure out what you need to do to satisfy the relevant authorities.
