  • TT Insurance and Warranty

    Hello all-
We are picking up our GD 2600RB this week.
I am wondering who you use for insurance?
Did you get an extended warranty? Whose do you like? How much was it?
    Thank you

We use the same company that we use for auto, home, and everything else. Keeping it all together keeps it simple for us and we have been extremely happy with the local agent and the corporate claims when we have had to deal with them. Beware the giant companies that spend dump-trucks of money on advertising because they are regularly at the bottom of quality lists when it comes to taking care of their customers via claims.

We skipped the extended warranty because I trust my own ability to make repairs. We joke around our house that "I am the warranty". I've heard very few good things about extended warranties from consumers and all the financing people push them hard; that should tell you all you need to know. That said, I don't fault anyone for making the decision that they think is best for them. If you don't intend on doing your own repairs it might be more tempting to get a warranty.

Good luck with picking up your trailer! I strongly recommend doing a thorough walk through of your RV BEFORE signing paperwork or handing them payment. If there is anything wrong that needs to be addressed, you have leverage before they have your signature whereas if you ask for those things to be fixed after signing then you go into the standard service queue. Bring a checklist of items to look for (you can find tons of good ones online, including on this board) and ask them for time. When we bought our rig they wanted us to sign everything and then do a walk through and I had to tell them about 10 times that I would not sign until I was satisfied with the walk through; I wasn't a jerk but I was firm in that stance and they made it happen. You should feel in control of the situation, because you should be in control of the situation. If something triggers a red flag, be prepared to not sign even if it's difficult to do.

Most importantly, like with every part of RVing, take your time and enjoy the process. Journey before destination.

Congrats on your new purchase! I also use my auto insurance for my RV. Verify with your carrier but usually when connected to your tow vehicle it's covered by the tow vehicle insurance, so it's only to cover it while parked.

Extended warranties are in my opinion not worth the paper they're printed on.

        Congratulations!!
We also use the same insurance that we have for auto. I would echo what was said above about the walk through. We talked to the dealer prior to scheduling and told them the walk through would take at least 4 hours (took 6) and we would require them to have a capable technician there to show us items that were new to us and be able to fix anything within reason that we found. I recommend finding or creating a checklist and taking something to be able to test outlets, temperature, ladder, microwaveable dish and water at a minimum. There are several checklists online, the one I used is hopefully attached here. Rv Inspection .pdf

urlbee51 Welcome to the group. You are really going to like the 2600RB, we love ours. Yes on the checklist for your walk through and take your time! As for insurance, I would be very cautious of using the same carrier as you use for home and auto without doing some serious shopping around. We have our home and autos on the same carrier but the coverage for the R.V. was outrageous as an add on. We found insurance with a respected national carrier for our unit at less than half of what our main carrier was offering with the exact same coverage line by line. The line item check against different carriers is important as some "good" deals are not so much a good deal sometimes. I would also suggest that replacement value coverage is a good idea for the first several years, ($30) just in case. I would also check with the auto carrier to ensure just what they would cover in an accident, some do better than others. Enjoy your 2600RB! BTW you might want to fill in your info on the bottom of your page so we all know what your rig is, it can help get better responses.

No specific recommendation on insurance company or extended warranty (We have one and it came in handy for replacing the microwave/convection oven). Do want to note that most auto/trailer policies do not cover the contents. Might not be too critical for weekend warrior, but as full timers we wanted to make sure our possessions were covered.

Congratulations on the the new trailer. As mentioned, check with your current carrier, even ensure you get the multi - policy discount, then verify they are reasonably priced.

Extended warranty: most are worth less than the paper they are written on. MFG warranty on appliances is longer than the build between the frame and the appliance which is all the extended warranty will cover.

If you are not handy at fixing things, you will learn how to do simple trouble shooting and simple repairs, otherwise be prepared for the waiting game.

If you are uncomfortable working on any items, I suggest finding a good mobile tech. Most of them can work you in faster than the dealer.
