Keyed alike thumb turn compartment lock sources

I hope I have this in the correct section.
I want to update security on my baggage doors. I know it wont help much if someone really wants to get in. I ran across a keyed thumb turn lock the other day.

However I have not found this type of keyed thumb lock on any site that does keyed alike, but maybe I missed it. I want to match the main door key so I don't have compartments locks that 99% of the folks have. Has anyone run across this type of lock. I assume most of the main door keys are different.

In changing locks I would not like to loose the thumb lock ease around the camp site, but get added compartment locking ability by changing the thumb locks to a key version. as well of the rest to match.

Hi Keith,

I was looking for cam lock replacements as well. We just purchased a 2021 GD Imagine 2910BH and the rear-most storage compartment has two of the three cams not catching the inner lip (either the lock/cam was installed just a hair high or the beveled cam itself needs to be just a hair longer). I have not had luck finding a longer cam, but have ran across several sites (I Googled "RV cam lock replacement") that have locks. It was a bit of an eye-opener as I did not realize the CH751 key is a popular key for the outside storage door locks used on most class A, B and C RVs. I may be replacing all my cam locks for that reason. I knew the camper door locks also use a generic key as well (hence why the dealership can use a master key when giving sales walkthrus) which was another reason I researched replacement locks for those as well (Amazon has a few that have a FOB just like a car remote (that are interesting... but pricey but I have yet to find such a lock that is not that much less). Industrial Lock and Hardware may have what you are looking for (not endorsing them as I have not used them) but there are several companies that provide replacement cam locks that are keyed alike. I like the thumb style you mentioned and had not considered that so thank you for the idea... if I find anything I'll let you know (and if you do please shoot me a line as well).

That style reminded me of Undercover tonneau cover locks.
Seems this style keyed alike is elusive.

My wife has me looking at this as well. No decisions - not even sure what I want to do....but definitely don't like how common the key is! I could have sworn I saw a youtube video where someone changed it and had leading issues (not a Grand Design) Here is a video my wife sent me that may be of interest.

I guess one of my concerns is if we replace it - is that key really common to? I don't want to swap a common key for a slightly less common key...

The Youtube video that you linked references RV Locks products. https://www.rvlocksandmore.com/lockskeys Several on this forum have replaced storage compartment locks with their products keyed to match the entry door. They have 90 different key codes available. They do not have the keyed thumb lock that Keith linked in the first post, but can provide keyed storage compartment locks to replace non-keyed thumb locks (if you wanted to do this).

With reference to an earlier comment, the entry door has two keyed locks. One is stamped "M" meaning that a dealer (or anyone else) with an RV master key can open this lock. The master key cannot open the second entry door lock or any of the matched storage compartment locks. Storage compartments usually come with CH751 locks . . .

OK I found a source and folks seem to like them. However they can only be keyed alike to two key numbers, K026 and K078. Seems they are used on tool boxes etc. I wonder how common they are for RV's? I don't want to end up with something everybody has a key for.

Now for reviews and I hope this is OK there is a long thread over at https://www.forestriverforums.com Its under "A Framed Campers", titled "Keyed thumb locks". I can post a direct link if that is OK? Its an old thread covers a couple of years, but there are good reports if they are maintained - kept lubed, they do very well. I also have a call into some local locksmiths and other sources to see if the cylinder can be changed out to my door lock key.

One thing I need to check is if when the cargo door is open, will it still latch (magnetic) Need to measure and check against the drawing.
