  • Storage totes / boxes revisited - for pass through, front bay, under bed

I had a chance today to review my storage totes while searching for my Delphi connectors (never did find them, but I know there somewhere).

Anyway I have a cornucopia collection of totes/boxes I have gotten over the years like the typical Walmart plastic bins like theses from HD. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Sterilit...6A60/308820126 Don't buy as they crack easily and lids pop off. Also on the don't buy list with cracking lids and box that have failed are these https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-27-G...NE-5/205978361

The only durable totes so far appear to be Husky https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-5-...8918/313861296, but my Local HD has issues keeping the various sizes in stock. Are there other durable brands I should look at?

What I am looking for are the small totes (5gal 10 gal) to hold the parts cases (crimp terminals, heat shrink tubing, maybe a small tool or two) and the various boxes of screws and bolts I carry.

So what are folks using that hold up? What about the tool boxes like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-16...5-03/301844757 I have a couple (not husky) that have cracked, broken hinges, etc.

I am wanting something that nests if possible that wont slide around. Looking for ideas I have not thought of.

BTW I did do a search on the above, but not much came up.

    Containment
Also to contain the boxes in the pass through/front bay and prevent my doors form being pushed open from the inside again (shifting gear) would spring bars like this work? https://www.amazon.com/Camco-Refrige.../dp/B0006IX7WY I am thinking I need something heavier? Maybe netting - not sure how to attach that? I am also wanting something for the front bay and that is a big wide area to cover.

    Thanks

This Milwaukee Packout - Modular Tool Storage Systems - Tool Storage - The Home Depot is one I have seen used, I think ncitro uses this. As far as the spring bars I think I would steer clear of those. Maybe screw a cleat down at the edge of the plastic bin in the pass thru to hold items from sliding towards the doors, this would make sliding items out a little harder though.

May not be strong enough for your use but I've had good luck with these.

Latching lids, stack pretty well, 2 of the 12's stacked are just the right height to fit in my pass thru. And since they have handles, I installed hooks on the front and back side of my pass thru so I can run bungee cords from hook to hook passing thru the tote handle. They stay in place nicely.

I am revamping my setup as well. I found these Sterlite 10 gal flat totes are working pretty good for me and not so big that they wrench my back out like a large tote. Stackable, yet low profile. I have a flat level of totes now in my pass thru and a nested stack that I bungee in the front storage location. I think you can get them on Amazon, but I could only find them locally at the Container Store.

Not me with the Milwaukee, must be thinking of someone else there. I've got the black totes with yellow lids you linked, they've held up well for me but all I've got on top is one of these parts boxes on each. Mine are in a sliding tray so containment isn't an issue but that's all the height I get.

I really like the red husky totes as well, I use one for my starlink dish, but did not go with them throughout due to limited sizing.

I like the milk crates for the basement. Easy to see through and being boxy pack nicely.

I usually keep my parts in see through containers like https://www.amazon.com/Flambeau-Outd...s%2C149&sr=8-4 to help minimize weight and the shear volume of stuff one can take with them. If I need more than that, I probably need to head home.

I also have https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-34...-001/315003284 that I use for all of my electrical connectors. Clear top, easy to see through and holds way more than I need to be working on while traveling.
