Since you have the water panel seriously disassembled anyway . . . what about a drain pan over the new plywood to contain any future leaks or spills? The largest cooking sheet with raised edge all around should work. A flush fitting to a drain hose would take any water away.
As alway . . . this forum is really good at spending OPM (other people's money) on any project that comes our way
