  • Customer Satisfaction Program notice for heat shield on Microwave/Convection oven

I have heard from some other GD owners that there they are getting Customer Satisfaction Program notices to install a heat shield behind the microwave/convection oven to prevent the heat scorching or discolouration on the wall behind the unit.

Just wondering if this is going to go out to all owners including the ones in Canada or if anyone in Canada has seen a notice yet?

I have received this for our camper. I do not believe it is a recall but rather a courtesy fix. The letter does not state "recall". I have requested and received the ok to do this mod myself , the part or parts are on there way. I am not sure what this will entail until I receive more info but I think it is an easy fix for those that can do on there own. I will gladly report when I get this done.

Thanks, to Ryan Hwktlg8 for bringing this concern from him and other owners in a thead on this forum and in the other sandbox a few months back. It apparently generated enough feedback from other owners and GDRV acted to address the issue in a positive direction as is so often done. Thank you, GDRV as well.

Got mine today. This is a, No Charge Customer Satisfaction Program. A less than 1 hour fix.
I will also reequest the materials to repair on my own, or if the Service Center can or will do this, I will let them while they are repairing my heavy slide later this year once they are up and running again.

It is my understanding from reading several sources that this is only an issue with convection microwaves that are not externally vented (i.e. the High Pointe units) and not with externally vented units such as the newer Furrions. Is this correct?

                    Rob, Correct.
It says, "behind their convection microwave, visible only after lowered or removed". These are not vented to the outside of the unit.

This is my understanding as well. The only thing is that I have a Furrion Convection Microwave that is not vented outside so I suspect that this will have the same issue. Maybe not though if the Furrion is different enough not to get that hot back there. I do notice a funny smell though when using the convection oven so suspect that it is the same issue.

I have a Furrion convection in my 315 and got the letter today. The DW says she's used the convection function in the microwave "as an oven" so I'll see what it looks like when I pull it down. (Shows how much I pay attention--I didn't know she'd used it!)

                          Howard,
Thanks for the fix above. Not sure what I did there.

On the convection/microwave. I have not had a chance to look at mine yet, but I wonder if we could move them slightly ahead (pull them forward) to allow a little air circulation in the back?

It would be good to see what yours looks like. Hopefully I will get a letter as well to get this fixed.

I just took a peek at my 303 Mico/Convection. I have just the "panel board" behind mine. NO wall paper on the panel board like in the photo Canyonlight posted above in post #7.

So I wonder, is it needed with just a panel board? My slide is in, and the unti still in the barn so i could not see much else yet.

Waiting on Howard, howson to see what he finds in his 315, or anyone else that might have looked into this.
