While what Cate&Rob says could be true, the Canadian electrical code gives a max amperage of 45amps for #8. But....inspectors can allow variations from the code at their discretion. Or so I'm told.
I find it interesting that the ampacities of the NEC table differs from the CEC table 2. This isn't table two but a snapshot of common wire sizes extracted from it.

Well duh! That’s Canadian Amps vs. U.S. Amps. 😀

Reminds me of when we used to do field testing. We used a lot of non-technical data loggers to help document the tests. We’d give them a little 2 minute brief on what they were supposed to do. It involved measuring things with a tape to the nearest mm, and we regularly had to show them how to measure. Then we’d mention to always include the time in metric next to the measurement so we could verify it was for the right test. 90+ percent would nod their heads and not ask a question.

Heinz, Ask your electircian what the difference is for the 30A single hot plug vs the 50A double hot plug with the neutral in the 50A the same size as the Hot's. Then make your decision. It's much easier to pay extra once and adapt down (https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Campe...zcF9hdGY&psc=1 or https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Cord-...lbWF0aWM&psc=1) vs having to pay the electrician to come back out later, remove all the work done and replace with larger. You might be pleasantly surprised that the cost of the 50A is not that much more expensive and increases your options if needed.
