What are a few reasons why the fan in the converter comes on, or is it simply because the room it’s in may be too warm? TY

Thanks Ted, I was hoping that it was as simple as you’ve said, simply for cooling. We usually have the AC on, (Florida) so I seldom hear it running but when traveling to cold climates and run the fireplace, which is in the same room as the converter, it seems to run more often. Thanks again.Dave and Sue

All the lights are 12vdc. How many lights are on? Non-led lights will draw more dc power than led lights.
Is your refrigerator 12vdc?
Is your refrigerator inverter-powered? The inverter draws dc power.

The fridge control is operated by the 12 v dc circuit. It is still common even though on shore power to hear the fan on the converter. If enough items are turned on the fan will come on, I would not worry about it unless the fan is running often with out any 12 v dc items on.

You should actually only ever hear it when on shore or generator power. The converter itself charges the batteries, but also powers all of your 12V loads when on shore power, so it works harder the more 12V you use. Even though they are LED the lights still draw a fair bit of power, I find having more than a couple of them on used to spin up the converter (when I still used mine). When you are not on shore power, you are drawing solely off the batteries, so the converter is not used (and in fact has no power going to it) so it would be silent then.Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. In addition to Neil and Brian's advice and to answer your other question.....yes the converter fan will run more often as the temperature at the converter (inside the rig) becomes hotter.
Here is some additional information if insomnia is an issue.
