  • 2022 Momentum 397TH-R bad odor from shower

We are experiencing bad odor coming from the shower drain when the vent fan is on.
Is there an air admittance valve (AAV) for the shower or is it one of the other types?
Does anyone know where the valve is located?

The shower has a vent to the roof.

The lavatory (bathroom sink) utilizes the same drain tank and that line has an AAV. It will be under the sink. Open the doors and look up. Much more general information on the AAV in this thread: https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...mittance-valve

The washer also uses the same tank and it utilizes a Hepvo valve. General info on the Hepvo here: https://gdrvowners.com/forum/operati...72-hepvo-valve

As howson (Howard) pointed out, the drawing for the 397TH shows there is a vent pipe to the roof. There is also a standard P-trap under the shower. If the P-trap is not full of water, gasses can be pulled from the gray tank and out the shower drain.

Even if you're not using your shower, it's important to place about a gallon of water down the drain on a routine basis. Evaporation can dry them out quicker than you realize.

We have solved the problem with two behavior changes:
        1) close the kitchen sink grey water valve until it is full.
        2) completely cover the drain of the shower when it is not in use.

The three of us live full time in our unit, so getting water into the shower periodically is not an issue for us.

Note that I always make a P trap with the sewer hose next to the sewer ground connection (this removes the sewer as a source of bad smells).
We had been keeping the both grey water gates open.
The simple test of closing the kitchen grey water valve with the shower grey water valve open and the bathroom fan on high convinced us where the really bad smell is coming from.
We use Dawn ultra soap in the kitchen and periodically dose the holding tank with borax to kill any mold.
If anyone has additional procedures to reduce kitchen holding tank smells, please share

Even with closing of the Kitchen holding tank, the smell was still "not pleasant" to my wife with the exceedingly sensitive nose.
So, we took the little metal cap off of the drain and replaced it with two covers.
One that catches hair when we shower: Danco 10306, Tub Protector Hair Cather and Strainer; we have tried several and this one works best for us. But, it does not last long... about 1 year.
And another which completely covers the drain from a drain clean kit we bought some time back.
Unfortunately, that kit no longer seems to include the drain cover: Drain Clog Remover.
A nice feature of the one we have is a 1" tall ring on the bottom that centers the plug over the drain.
Any drain plug or cover should work as long as it is mostly air tight.
