Genius I tell you! This is just genius!

A manual valve would be a great idea but on that soft hose? I asked a few posts up if I should make the output line Pex and it was to add a shutoff valve to pump. But read the instructions and it is not advised.

Beachcamper Vivian, My 1st 5er had the water pump PEX plumbed. As mentioned not a good idea. The stiffness of the line caused it to rattle everything it touched when the pump was running and as it reached pressure it amplified.

I adapted my pump to use coils of high pressure washing machine hose to isolate my all Pex plumbing from pump vibration. If I need to remove or isolate the pump, this can be done with the faucet caps (centre of 3rd picture) that I carry in my spare parts bin. No tools required and almost as easy as turning a valve.

I am going to put my new pump on a piece of wood block as you did for ease of removal or maintenance. The way GD placed the filter is very difficult to clean the strainer or tighten screws in head assembly. Would adding a piece of mat like a yoga mat under the wood block help with the noise?

              Hi Vivian,

The wooden block under my water pump actually carries four vibration isolators that the pump mounts too. This is another important part of isolation pump vibration. I am not sure of a current source for parts like this . . . (I had these left over from similar projects in the past).

Something like Yoga mat under the pump would help, but if/when you fasten down the wood block to the floor, this will transmit the vibration past the softer mat.

Here is my pump mount based on Rob’s design. I used a piece of heavy rubber floor mat that is attached to the pump with small bolts, washers and nuts. Then screwed the mat to a piece of plywood with 4 holes drilled below the bolts in the mat. Then just screwed the plywood into the floor. This worked great to reduce the noise from the pump and makes it easy to remove if I have a problem with the pump. I also added coils of heavy duty soft hose to prevent vibration from the pump transferring into the pex lines.

Bob, the 4 holes in first picture I assume are under the feet of the pump? So the only thing the bolt goes through is the rubber mat? I was just outside looking at how best to make this easy to remove and it’s pretty much what you did except I was going to use wing nuts vs square. I did not consider making the holes under feet.

Avoid the temptation to zip tie the coils together. This will eliminate the isolation.

In any good vibration anti transmission setup, there are at least 2 sets of bolts holding things together / down.

Yes, the holes are located below each mounting point. The bolts hold the pump to the rubber pad with washers. This way there is no hard point of contact between the pump and the floor. Vibration over time might loosen the nuts, so I have to remember to check that in my annual maintenancE.

bogen2 May I ask where you got the rubber mat?

Beachcamper I got them from Home Depot. They were interlocking tiles for a workout room.

A good design to isolate pump vibration!
If you use Nylock nuts, these should not loosen.

Shurflo has a hose kit with hoses that are shorter than washing machine hoses and also have the swivel pipe end fitting.
