  • Missing/Loose Brake Backing Plate Nuts

I went to repack my wheel bearings on our 2022 Reflection 337RLS with approximately 9000 towed miles. The first hub I pulled off and out falls a nut. It was from the brake backing plate bolts. I also noticed there was another nut gone on this same wheel. It must have fallen out on the road. Out of five bolts that hold the backing plate onto the axle, two nuts had fallen off, two more were loose. Only one was tight. This was on the drivers side rear axle. When I pulled the other hubs I didn't find anymore missing nuts but some needed tightening. To my surprise the bearings all had plenty of grease in them but I still changed the grease and put in new seals.

So check those nuts for tightness when your in there.

Excellent information Tony. This is another great reason for owners to perform their annual brake and bearing maintenance and inspection.
