  • Intercepting the Solar Wiring from the roof?

Hi there! First time posting so hopefully this makes sense. We have a 2021 21BHE and are installing 800w solar panels, 3000w pure sine inverter, 60A solar charge controller, and 400ah LiFePo4 batteries (to be 800ah by EOY). We have a different setup in our trailer as we modified most of the door side of the trailer and the bunk area is an office now. We are FT IT and are on the road 80% of the time. Because we have modified our trailer, we don’t use the side dressers/closets for clothes. We’d used them for linen storage, hiking gear, etc. When we decided to do Solar, we decided to use the inside dresser/closet as a solar server closet, if you will. We have the Solar charge controller, bus bar/distributor, the inverter, and all the wiring primarily in the closet. Because of this, I’d like to cut down the length of the wires from the roof and have it come directly into our Solar cabinet. We just don’t want to pull off every panel in the trailer to find it.

Does anyone know if it’s in the wiring that leads to the TV or where it goes down along the trailer and if it passes by the closet there? We don’t want to run 20’ of wire when all we need is 3’.

PBJDee Welcome to the forum. When we toured the factory in April we looked at the routing of the solar wiring. It travels to the front, down the nose and back to the controller. It was run through zip ties attached to the framing, which are supposed to be "loose" to allow the cabling to be pulled out, but the ones we saw were pretty tight. I would not be surprised if they were difficult to pull out.

ncitro thank you for this! We had seen the cords in a cord track coming out along the nose in the basement and were thinking this was the right area, but of course we have more holes in our modified trailer than we’d like so no need to add more unnecessary ones.

Will wait to see if anyone throws up the big SOS flares before I start drilling, but what you’re saying confirms what we saw. Yay!

      thank you much!

Wanted to provide an update in case anyone else needs to do this. Huge disclaimer that we have modified our trailer to meet our needs, so customizing isn’t an issue for us.

We were able to open up the combiner box on the roof and have the wires rerouted to behind the TV at the roof. It took two people, skinny fingers, and a lot of patience, but we now have a 4’ cord to our solar controller instead of a 20’ or longer cord. Since we have our solar equipment in the closet, this worked out great.
