  • Rally Seminar on using Multi-meters

Brian Country Campers is leading the rally seminar scheduling effort. I'll be leading a seminar on how to safely use a multi-meter in your RV. A multi-meter can be an invaluable tool to monitor and trouble-shoot various AC and DC electrical circuits and components in your RV.

I'd encourage you to bring your meters to the seminar if you have one. If you don't have a meter, there are some great deals on Amazon that won't break the bank. Basic meters can be purchased for less than $10. If you'd like to purchase a more advanced meter that can easily monitor AC and DC amperage, I use this one:

Excellent seminar subject. A very useful tool....very misunderstood by most people on how to use.

I like this one...BUT....I didn't have to pay for it. Retirement gift from work.

I think Howard posted a link to a southwire clamp on meter recently.

Jim, it would be nice if Brain (and hopefully lots of assistants to run around) would also go into basic DC clamp on measuring to help people understand the significance of being able to detect amp draw issues.

One other thing that would be nice is if there was a demo table where participants could walk up to after the seminar for hands on help. Basic station with say 6 sets of test points both AC and DC. A bit expensive for a demo, but if several owners had and could loan them these would be nice to help showcase ac receptacle measuring (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1). Not attending the rally, but if I were there I'd loan mine and the clamp on meter for the demo because any knowledge is always helpful especially since members are scattered. Basic meter use helps everyone especially when you need assistance and cannot provide basic information.

Again another useful tool (thanks HOWARD) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Might be beneficial if someone had a test setup with the wires already split out to showcase being able to measure amp draw on the hot and neutral lines vs the ground (should be zero). Some type of load like an AC or other higher amp draw.
