  • 2024 GD Waco Eclipse Rally SRT Seminar Notes

ncitro, TucsonJim and myself are attending the 2024 Grand Design Eclipse Rally in Waco, Texas. This morning two Grand Design Service Response Team members held an hour long Q&A session. Below are my notes from the session in no special order. The verbiage is my interpretation of what the techs said--any error is solely due to my misunderstanding.

Q: The rollers under the bedroom slide squeek. What can I do about it?
A: Using CRC PowerLube (in the green can), with the slide fully extended try to hit the ends of the rollers at the shaft. This is the interface where the squeek is coming from. Do NOT lubricate the top of roller where it interfaces the bottom of the slide, only the sides where the shaft goes through the middle of the roller.

Q: When and how to clean the hydraulic cylinders on the levelers?
A: Wipe them down to clean them, the with a clean cloth lightly coated with CRC Powerlube, wipe down the cylinders again. Do as frequently as a visual inspection requires (dust, dirt, bugs, etc).

Q: Why do my slides and front jacks (hydraulic) move uncommanded?
A: One of the valves is bypassing or cylinders is bypassing. Since the both front jacks are bleeding down, the valve on the manifold is the first thing to troubleshoot.

Q: The clutch on a thru-frame electric slide clicks (makes the noise as it reached the end of travel) when first extending the slide. On the second or third try (after the slide moves a bit) it extends the rest of the way just fine. Why does it do this?
A: Most likely the slide is slightly out of alignment, thus it takes additional force to get the slide moving. The clutch is designed to slip when too much torque is applied. Another possibility is the clutch could be going bad and the initial force required to get the slide moving causes the slip.

    Q: A 2024 Solitude's TPMS (banded) won't sync with a phone. Why?
A: Try using a tire sensor tool to activate the sensor prior to attempting to sync on the phone. (Side note--I personally doubt this will help. If anyone on this forum has that issue, call Lippert Technical Support for assistance.)

Q: A slide is impacting the floor when extending and retracting. What can I do about it?
A: The slide may need adjusting. If that doesn't help, consider using Lippert's Slide Slickers to protect the floor.

Q: Why does the flame in my oven go out with the slide extended but work with the slide all the way in? A: There's a gas line being pinched. Follow the gas line to find it--should be obvious.

Q: All the LED lights in all the slides do not work. Any idea why?
A: Most likely a chassis ground issue. Sometimes owners will add many powered items on the positive side without considering the return side, thus the ground gets overloaded and could fail all together. Remember that there is a single 6 ga wire connected to the frame, aka "ground".

Q: The Auto-Level on a camper does not return to hitch height correctly.
A: Any movement AFTER disconnecting from the truck and BEFORE hitting Auto Level will mess up the Hitch Height. Correct procedure is to disconnect from the truck (nose is raised), then (with truck pulled away) hit Auto Level. Then do NOT make any further manual adjustments. If you do assume HItch Height will be inaccurate.

Q: Is there a way to adjust the flame height in my stove?
A: Not directly, but a check of the secondary regulator's pressure is warranted when the stove is in use. There should be at 11" of water column ("WC") with the stove on. There are several other associated checks that are done at the same time to ensure the propane system is working correctly. A trained technician with a manometer is the way to get this check done.

Q: Water leak after it rains. The water comes down the middle of the window over the range. We can't find it. How can I troubleshoot?
A: Start by spraying the window with a garden hose. If there's no evidence of a leak, spray above the microwave vent. If no leak, spray the roof over the top of the vent and range. Most likely the problem will be near and above the entry point, but keep in mind it could also be feet away.

Q: The OneControl app will not let me do anything upon arrival until I enter the rig and acknowledge the Motion Lock on the control board. Any way to bypass this issue?
A: Not to our knowledge. This is a safety issue so an accidental activation via a phone while driving doesn't occur.

Q: (Lots of questions about Frame Flex).
A: All frames must flex. A frame that doesn't frame is more of an issue than a frame that does. (My input--think of the frame like an aircraft wing. It's designed to flex.) The exact movement is dependent on the model and weight of the unit. The 3/8 measurement commonly referenced is a good ballpark "norm".

Q: What should my tire pressure be set at?
A: (I'm omitting the response here because none of you moderators agree with what was said and we do not want to repeat it here. Our advice: assuming OEM spec'd tires, set the air pressure at the start of the travel day when the tires are cold to the specification on your trailer's tire label and then leave the pressure alone for the rest of the day.)

Q: What router can I use in conjunction with the OneControl system?
A: Call Lippert's technical support line -- they are awesome and know their stuff in this area.

Q: What air pressure should I set as the maximum in my TPMS app before I get the warning?
A: Typically 20% above the cold pressure value, but consult your tire or TPMS' manual for more information.

Q: What do you think of Sumo Springs and will GD SRT Team be able to help me on the road if there's an issue?
A: GD SRTs are not allowed to remove, install, or adjust anything that is not OEM from the factory on a GDRV.

Q: Why doesn't GD use standard wire colors in for a given system in their RVs?
A: GD is rapidly moving to standardize, but older and current models may have any combination of colors based on the needs in a given production day.

That's the end of my notes. Please do not quote this whole thread if you care to respond or add a comment.
