I arrived at our campsite after about 200 miles on the road, backed in and proceeded to disconnect only to find the Socket pin that holds the Spring arm to the Socket on the hitch head was not to be found. (Equalizer hitch)
I feel lucky that apparently the force on the Socket was enough to hold the bar in place. Also lucky that I carry a spare set of pins and clips so no harm no foul. Could have been a big problem though.
No question that everything was properly connected at home. Somehow the R-clip (hairpin) manged to come out and allow the Socket pin to slide out. I just checked my remaining R-clip as well as a brand new one and they are not super stiff so perhaps how it came out.
Anyway, now that I've gone on way too long with the set-up, anyone have suggestions on preventing this situation again? I was thinking of pushing the R-clip all the way to the "finger hole" rather than just the "first click". Or perhaps use a safety pin instead. Other ideas?
Thanks
Terry
