  • Capable? F150 & Imagine 2670

Hello, I own a f150 3.5 eco boost super cab Max tow 10,300. I’m looking at the imagine 2670 MK. Gvwr on TT is 8500, uvw is6850. I’m good on weight just not sure on the length as it’s 32 feet long. I’m worried about the tail wagging the dog. Also is 38k a fair price? Thanks

Attach a good WDH/Sway Control on that dog and the tail should be fine. I recommend the BLUE OX SWAY PRO. As far as price, if you're comfortable with the price that's all that matters. That's an awesome floorplan though!!!

Just be aware that "Max Tow" on an F150 doesn't get you all that an F150 is capable of. There is a "Heavy Duty Payload Package (HDPP)" that includes some things that are important for towing large trailers. The most important of these is LT (light truck) tires rather than the passenger car tires that came with your Max Tow. Don't be surprised if you have not head of HDPP . . . most Ford dealers haven't either . (I have pointed it out to more than one dealer . . . in the brochure sitting on his desk) You might want to consider upgrading to LT tires, as others have found this to be a significant improvement for towing.

Get all the numbers off the door frame sticker on the truck, the numbers off the GD web side for the trailer, and enter them here:

        http://changingears.com/rv-sec-calc-...eight-tt.shtml

Also keep in mind that the advertised tongue weight is empty/dry. A properly loaded travel trailer will typically put 12 - 15% of its gross weight on the hitch.

It's all about payload--you can (almost) ignore the "max tow" rating on your truck. As a certified member of the Two Time Tow Vehicle Club (one you don't want to be a member of) getting an understanding of the numbers is critical to the purchase decision.

A couple of resources. A simplistic attempt at the topic is in a series of articles here: https://gdrvowners.com/towing-and-hi...weight-ratings

There is nothing I can add to the preceding answers, except for my own experience. My 2500 HD truck has a GVWR of 10,000 lbs. By itself, with a full load of fuel and no passengers aboard, it weighs 8080 lbs. That leaves me 1920 lbs for passengers and cargo (cargo carrying capacity). The trailer tongue weight counts as part of the cargo. I have the 2970RL with a GVWR of 8995 lbs. Advertised tongue weight is 751 lbs. My actual tongue weight, calculated from weighing the fully loaded rig, comes in around 1000 to 1100 lbs, using a weight distributing hitch. (how you load the trailer affects this also) My wife and I together weigh 300 lbs. That only leaves me a little more than 500 lbs for additional passengers and cargo, before I max out the cargo carrying capacity of my truck. I usually have a couple of hundred pounds of "stuff" in the truck bed. If I take additional passengers, I'm maxing out. The point of all this is, the weight adds up fast so plan accordingly!

BTW... We were seriously considering the 2670MK. I think it's a great trailer. We ended up with a 2970RL as after weighing all the pros and cons, we felt it would work out better for us with our grandkids.

Hi Bags, I towed my 2670 with both a 2017 RAM 1500, CC, 5.7 box and a 2013 F150,CC, 6.5 box. The RAM had only 1300# payload, hence the switch to the F150 with the max tow package which gave me 1770# payload. In order for us to be comfortable towing a tail heavy 2670, my tongue weight had to be 1000# or greater. Even then, because I didn't have the heavy duty payload package, my suspension was too light for the size of the trailer. Best of luck, Frank
