humunuku -- awesome! Moved the topic to the Towing and Hitches > Reference Material sub-channel.
Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. Unless specifically mentioned otherwise, we have nothing to gain should you choose to purchase a product or engage a service we discuss on this forum.

        Hello Sean /Danna,

I tried to follow the link while using my membership and it appears to have been removed. Very disappointing as there was a lot of information. As an alternative I did find a PDF file with towing information.Mind you it is dated 2012. Meanwhile, I could not find a comprehensive list for driver license requirements. I hope the helps. Following this message, I will modify the original posting and update the information. Thank you for reaching out.

I know this is an old thread, but decided to update it rather than start a new one.

This topic popped up on another forum with someone interested in a big Momentum. I remember a while back in another thread someone had an issue with thier states DMV on the license they needed after buying a set up. so I suggested. the OP to check thier State requirements. In the reply's, someone posted this new link Some data is still as of 2021, so it would be worth while to check. Whats nice the article has links to most states DMV departments..

          https://changingears.com/rv-drivers-...-requirements/

It made me look at my own Colorado license and I discovered I am limited to below 26k combined gross weight.. If I ever upgrade - say to a Solitude I will need to change my classification.. Ill need a new tow vehicle too, an F450 Don't tell SWMBO

PS Just dreaming folks - just dreaming.

I had this exact problem when we upgraded to our Solitude. I had to take driver training and pass a Class A Restricted license here in Ontario to make sure I was legal. Was a pain but it is done now but people need to do their due diligence for sure to make sure they are legal.

How was the testing? Really stressful or not too bad?

I might be able to arrange a special test for you. Lets see ....backing an 18 wheeler into a loading dock between two other units that are over thier lines, or parallel parking your trailer on a busy city street.

When I took the driving test in Peoria Illinois I was driving an IH Travelall with 3 speed manual on the column. I had to parallel park it. First thing I did was get out and measure the spot as it looked tight (cone layout) Made it in the first try. with a foot to spare. Instructor was so impressed he just forgot the rest of the test and passed me. Made my dad proud as he had spent hours with me practicing. He also taught me the basics on towing. I was his backup driver..

Do the even make a manual trans pickup any more and how many kids could drive a stick nowadays?

I think the only thing you can get with a stick now is the Ford Bronco, a Roxor, a Jeep (select models) and a Toyota Tacoma. Full size with a stick has not existed for at least 5 years.

Another thing to know is that the rules are governed by your state of driver's license issue. If your state doesn't require a special license for an RV over 26,000 lbs, you can legally drive in any state. The Nevada State Patrol, when I asked them about this, said that it would be a good ideal to carry documentation of your state's exemption or rules when you travel to show the officer that might stop you to check. P.S. has to be for personal use and non-commercial in any way.

Scott'n'Wendy They no longer offer the manual trans. Stopped offering it not long after the Aisin was offered. The new Aisin's are considered maintenance items (according to a friend of mine that is already on his 2nd trans after 10k miles). Says Ram would rather change the trans than the fluids. Not even with the massive torque limiting they are doing will they survive and the Ram trans is even worse.

Hmmm. Mine's been bullet proof. And I only drive in two modes...wide open, or idle....lol...maybe that's why I can't keep rear tires on my Dodge...but....it's the same on my Challenger...
Not sure what you mean about the fluids..Owner is supposed to change every 30k.
Based on my Ford and Dodge ownership, I'll take the Aisin over any other I've had. Horrible low speed tuning but excellent everywhere else.

The worst part of it was the backing into a pretty tight space between cones used to simulate backing into a dock with walls on either side. Touch the cones and it's an automatic failure, ask me how I know

The problem was the short trailer from the driver training school had reacted much faster than I was used to.
