It weighs around 1800 lbs. We loaded it backwards to try and put the weight closer to the axle. We also filled the fresh water tank 3/4 full. At any speed above 55mph, the rig had consistent terrible sway and was literally not drivable over 60. I am an experienced RV owner and have pulled various trailers for years. However this is my first toy hauler. The obvious concern is the design of the axle which forces the major toy load to all be located aft of the axle. My tongue weight was 1400 lbs prior to installing the sway bars.
My distributed tongue weight was in line with guidance from Weigh safe at 2850.When the 31G is empty, it tows wonderfully and with almost no effort. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, HDJ
I hate to ask, but what does your truck door sticker indicate your within all safe towing capacity's for your HD F250. Please take a picture and post. I will bet your close to being maxed out. An important question - does you F250 have the camper package? If not you lacking the HD rear sway bar ford installs under that option. It greatly improves the towing characteristic with either a TT or 5th wheel. I know from real life experience on this. The bar nearly eliminates the rolling action under heavy load. There are aftermarket ones too, but the Ford one is heavier and you can get it installed if you don't have it (recommended).
Now tire pressures. Are trailer tires at max pressure? Are your rear truck tires at max pressure and what is the brand/size/and load rating. You want a stiff sidewall tire back there such as E rated.

    Hope this helps

I was doing some more reading on the camper option. It seems that for Ford owners, Hellwig makes a very well respected aftermarket rear sway bar. This would be for 1) if you don't have one on your Ford or 2) if you want to go to the heavier Hellwig. Do some reading on this thing. I don't have one or know anybody with it but when the snow quits I'm going to see if I have the factory rear sway bar and if not, I'm going to buy one of these; https://www.hellwigproducts.com/prod...250+Super+Duty

I'm going to play devils advocate here. This is not meant to disrespect the OP in any way, but I see this as a common mis-calculation on the owners part. We want to be able to camp with the family and bring our toys. So we get a TV and then we look for a toy hauler, then we look for a toy. The truth is, all of the components for this setup need to be taken into consideration as a whole unit and not individual components. I have not looked at the 31G's numbers, I'm only going by what is talked about in this thread.

The cargo capacity of the 31G was stated as being 2,200 lbs. From that, you would have to subtract the weight of all your camping stuff ie. food, clothes, kitchen stuff, etc. Then, if you want to boondock or just be prepared, you will need to subtract the weight of fresh water. Want fuel for the toys? Subtract that weight also. This doesn't leave much CC left for toys.

The OP indicated he has a Maverick that weighs about 1,800 lbs. I have a Maverick X3 Turbo RR that weighs 1,800 lbs, so if I assume (I know) our machines are similar, the X3 is just over 11' long. The garage on the 31G is 13' long. This means the garage is completely full with no room to spare. And the toy itself about maxes out the CC.

When we were researching our rig, I took everything into consideration, including the possibility that we may want to upgrade toys in the future. With this in mind, we wanted to make sure we had ample capacity. This (for us and I know everyones situation is different) led us to the 381M. Knowing the weights of the 381M, we understood this would mean upgrading to a diesel dually. In the end, if we went this route we would end up with way more capacity than we might need, but we wouldn't be in a situation where we had a minimal toy hauler with maximum toy. We're okay with that and that's what we did.

In my most humble opinion, the 31G is really meant for a family (very nice floor plan BTW) with a couple of kids quads or a couple of dirt bikes. I think the trailer is too undersized for what the OP wants to accomplish and the best option for him would be to upgrade to a more suitable toy hauler. I wouldn't want to give up the X3 either! On this and the other forum, there is a club where the club members underestimated and ended up replacing their TV with a more capable one. Again, I think starting a similar club for upgrading the trailer may be the safest thing in the long run.
