Kingpin grease is critical. Also, depending on what type of lock it has, greasing both sides of the lock become critical also. King pin side and hitch side.

As for options on puck adapters, Pullrite has a system that converts the pucks to ISR. https://www.pullrite.com/4442
That is an excellent solution and will also work with the goose neck plate I have, but at $740 - well $629 it is more than 1/2 way to a B&W and my hitching and unhitching issues go away.

I have greased and dry lubed every point I can, but under pressure it is a real pain to get unhooked and I can easily hurt my back (already have) pulling the arm out to get the jaws to release. With the B&W if I swing the lever back I can just drive out.

I still have time to think on this - probably going to be 3 to 6 months before I can order.

I do appreciate the thoughts and help - I had not seen the PullRite one before.

    Thanks
    Keith

Yoda , we have used a 20K Curt gooseneck to rail adapter (fits into the B&W hole where the gooseneck ball would go) for nearly 60,000 miles of 5th wheel towing. First hitch was a Demco autoslide that seemingly weighed as much as the trailer, lol. While not a recommended use with an autoslider, I had no issues. Current is a pullrite 2400. No issues whatsoever. It fits tight in the hole and doesn't make any noise, yet releases easily if you wanted a clean bed. However, I am not sure if the factory balls are the same shape of shank as the B&W setup. If I was buying a new truck, I would skip the factory prep and go with the B&W setup like I currently have.

DarnDave Dave, All the factory prep gooseneck balls are round shank with ball bearing retainer IIRC (for domestic trucks). The Curt and B&W kits for all 3 I think are now interchangeable. The B&W hitches IIRC use a square shank with a pin retainer, and The Curt is a round with retainer pin vs ball bearing.

Jlawles2 Thanks, Joseph. This is how I understood it. *Most* accessories until recently were designed to fit the B&W hole. Those that are designed for the round holes seem to cost quite a bit more, but don't perform any better. Same goes for the puck system hitches. If it is important to someone who only tows occasionally and wants a clean bed floor the rest of the time, this makes sense. Personally, I have never removed my hitch to haul anything, so the extra expense isn't worth it to me.

To close out this thread I decided to just order a new hitch for the puck system (B&W RVK 3305), Yes it it has more capacity that I need now, but who knows what the future will bring. https://partshawk.com offered me $50 off with free shipping and no sales tax (Florida only) I am finding it pays to send a few emails and asking if coupons or discounts are available for old retired folks. I ordered and it shipped today. Ill update when it shows up.
