I can't compare to other hitches since it's the only one I have had. Since you do have a Ram with an 8' bed that I've been happy with my Mopar fixed 20.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum. With the 8' box you really wont need to use the turning point feature, but can if you wish, Does you truck have the puck system or in bed rails. Discussing hitch brands is like discussing which brand tow vehicle is best. I currently have a Reese, but I have a new truck coming (Ford ) and want one to fit the pucks. Be sure to read all the reviews you can on the hitch your considering to learn about issues or problems.

I would recommend the USA made B&W OEM Companion https://www.bwtrailerhitches.com/5th-wheel-hitch if you have the puck system. The Curt is made in China. Now if in the reviews you see issues with the B&W jaws not releasing this is not a problem as with the hitch unlocked you can drive out of it. I can not do that with my Reese when the jaws stick.

If you do use the turning point system be sure to get a wedge made specifically for you hitch. The generic one supplied with you trailer can be problematic with some hitches.

      Hope this helps

BrianG Welcome to the forum. Hitch brands are like oil brands and politics. Everyone has an opinion, and theirs is the best (insert lots of sarcasm here). I agree with Yoda, stick with a US brand. B&W, Pullrite, and a couple of others that are US made (Demco i think is US Mfg also).

8' bed typically does not need the turning point. The hitch is also more robust and has less flex if you lock it out with the bolts as it takes the load off the pivot point only and spreads it back across the hitch. I run a slider ONLY because of the short bed. Long bed, and I would not be running a slider.

I agree with Yoda and the other posts. Make sure you use a wedge that’s made specifically for your hitch. I purchased a new 295 RL last Fall. The camper dealer used the “universal” wedge in my dealer prep. It did not fit my EZ Lift and eventually damaged the hitch. I had an issue trying to unlock the hitch. I recently purchased a new RAM 3500 with the OEM fifth wheel prep. Based on the reviews I read and a local mechanic, I went with the B&W. The difference in quality is very apparent. The B&W is a horse. Our first trip with this set up will be in April so I can’t tell you how well it works.

Guys, Thank You for all the info, Having read these posts and still doing research I am leaning heavy on the B+W Companion 25000lb, part #BWRVK3600 Height 17in-19in. Price looks good and American made as well. Yes I agree I don't think I will have to use the 90deg turning on the pin box. Thanks again for the help, will post updates. Brian

If it provides any reassurance, I have that same B+W RVK3600 on my 2021 Ram 3500 8ft bed (OEM pucks) and have used it for almost a year now going up and down steep hills, and routinely have the truck at a steep uphill and the trailer still coming downhill at a not quite 90deg (100-110?) right turn to get out of my driveway. Also had the opposite situation at a couple of camps (truck facing down and trailer facing up). Longest trip was 600+ miles. The hitch has performed well, not a single problem.
NO issues with hitching or un-hitching. (OK, I did have one or two "newbie user errors" early on, getting the trailer height right, but thankfully the hitch was smart enough to not let go and I was a quick learner!).

It all depends on the squat your truck will have when loaded. I would wait on modifications before hitching for the first time and seeing what you really have. If there is an issue there are numerous solutions and threads that cover them. I upgraded to 16" tires. But I am in your shoes waiting on my new truck. There are trailer suspension lifting blocks. You also may be able to lower your truck.

                  Hope this helps

Yoda, I appreciate the quick feedback, I agree I will wait till I am hooked up and level and take my measurements and go from there, my ram has trailer height leveling adjustment but from what I have read you need to have trailer weight on for the adjustment to work, Tires and suspension kits I have not considered, Thanks for the help, Kinda sick just thinking about dropping more cash after buy-in this ram and GD, Will take it a day at a time Brother, Thanks again, Brian

My first concern would be the clearance between the top of the truck side rails and the bottom of the trailer nose. Should be 6 to 8 inches and the top of the hitch should be set to obtain this clearance based on how far the king pin hangs below the nose.
