  • Need to raise my front end about 2"

I need to raise the front of our rig about 2" to get a bit more bed rail clearance. My hitch is already as high as it will go and I can't drop the pin box any further without losing a set of bolts (5 sets to 4). Even at that I only have about 4". We currently have a Curt Q25 in the truck and a Rotaflex on the trailer.
Anyone know of a lower cost solution other than completely replacing the pin box? An extender/adapter plate or something?
We eventually want to switch to a Gen-Y gooseneck style but that will have to wait a bit.
    Thanks

    Hi Rob,

This is the opposite situation than what most of us are dealing with. Because of the higher bed floor in newer trucks, many of us are running the hitch adjusted as low as it will go and the pinbox as high as it will go. This is my setup and I have 8" of bed rail clearance which is more than I need (or want) since the Reflection is towing an inch or two high at the front. I know that we are comparing a Solitude and a Reflection plus a GMC and a Ford . . . but, your Curt hitch must be very short ??

Your Curt hitch has a max height or 17" B&W goes to 18.75" as do many others. Now as to the Rotafles pin box. You might check with them (I think LCI makes it) as most of the documentation I just looked up only shows 4 bolts. Worth a phone call. GD customer service might also know. Just have you vin handy when you call

BTW if your serious about the Gen Y goose neck, be sure to take measurements. I looked into ti for my trailer (they have a model that fits) however is reduces the tailgate clearance by about 3" and height is not adjustable except with an extended goose ball. The Reese has better adjustments FWIW

        Thanks Keith.
I did check with both Lippert and a sr. tech at our selling dealer and the consensus on the bolts is to not reduce the number as our pin weight is around 4,000 lbs.
I have looked at the Gen-Y measurements and we may need a highrise ball. I will definitely take a closer look before making that change though.
As to the Reese, I did take a close look at it but didn't like the idea of having to mess with airbags.

KamFlyer I attacked this issue from the other side, I lowered the rear end of my truck by replacing the 4" spacers with 2" f250 spacers. This allowed me to raise my hitch and increase my distance between my bed rails and the fifth wheel. I had replaced my trailer equalizers with the morryde SRE4000 and gone to a slightly higher tire, do that all raised my trailer a bit so it rides level when hitched up.

Have you called Curt"? Maybe that have an extension plate or replacement center cross member that allows for raising your hitch head to get the bed rail clearance you want.
Just thought. I would bet they have run into this before.
