To each their own, but I consider 5k mile oil changes a bit excessive. Wont hurt for sure, but what does Ford recommend? Cummins recommends 15k miles.

edit...The valve I was attempting to describe that got sensored is similar to a radiator drain valve
The truck monitors usage and recommends oil changes based on a number of factors as explained (well!) by Guest . I let the truck tell me when it needs service--figure Ford can't fault me or deny the extended warranty if I'm following their maintenance guidelines and having their technicians do all the work. (I have the fuel filters changed every other oil change like Beachcamper .)

The one service I've done is drain the water/fuel separator (once) but then was left with a small jar of diesel fluid. It's a nuisance trying to dispose of the fuel (legally and without burning it).

For those, like my '17, that don't have a % oil life left monitor on the Ford dashboard, the ForScan Lite app provides this capability.

I follow the severe schedule for oil changes while on travels (6 months a year) in the summer. When back in Florida in the winter, I keep to normal schedule 7500-10k miles for oil changes.

I also go by the truck computer for oil and do fuel every other. I'm spoiled with a lift and oil barrel at my office, so I do it myself, but usually have to have one done over the winter in Florida. So far I've been unimpressed. The last dealer I went to put the wrong oil in even after I checked twice when dropping it off.

For those without a lift I've put Fumoto drain plugs on my last three trucks. Gives you a valve and nipple to connect a drain hose to. If you keep your old gallon jugs you can drain right into them.

Since I discovered the fumoto valves, I've installed them on all my daily drivers since about 2009.

I was wondering what the recommended Ford oil change interval is. Do they not specify a max mileage between oil changes? My 2004 6.0 litre diesel recommended every 12000km if using conventional oil, which would be about 7500 miles.

Yeah I love them, they make changes a breeze.

            Looks like 10k recommended.

There are five versions for a '17 Superduty w/6.7 diesel. Which one would you recommend (and why)? https://www.fumotousa.com/cars-picku...8-turbo-diesel

howson I have one like the 106N on my truck. You can attach a piece of hose if you wish when draining. If you don't use a hose, the oil can come out of these trucks fairly forcefully and when the first litre or two hits the drain pan, it splashes. the drain hose eliminates that.

ncitro Thanks for the chart. There are significant differences when compared with my Dodge truck. The trans change recommendation in particular. The Aisin trans requires changes every 30k miles!!

howson I forget, on the 17 is the drain plug on the bottom of the pan or the back? Mine is on the back so I have the one with the elbow, the 316. This way the exit of the valve is pointed down. I also use a small bit of tubing to then drain into my barrel, but it's also really nice for draining back into your old gallon jugs. If your plug is on the bottom of the pan then I'd get the 106N. The S is for if it would be the lowest hanging thing and you off road. As I recall there's a bunch of stuff hanging below the oil pan on mine.

Happened to be doing my oil change today and took a picture of how mine sits:

ncitro -- thanks, Neil. Changing oil is so simple a task I may save the $$ and do the between-fuel-filters-oil-changes myself (when I get home, that is).
