  • 2021 Goshen National Rally

I’ll show my newness here. I was looking at the site with satellite view, looks like the parking is pretty tight. We have pets, is there enough room to set up our play pen for them. Also any tips from members that have been before, if we can get a ticket.

You will find a lot of info on the Facebook Rally pages, also GDRV4LIFE has a rally section.

There is reasonable spacing between all trailers on all sites. I don't think there is any site where you could not set up a (small) pet playpen. Many attendees have pets. Dogs are supposed to be on leashes on fairground property, but there are remote spaces to play ball without bothering anybody. (Ask me how I know this . . . see my Avatar). It is important to understand that this is a "fairground" . . . not a "campground". There will be 500 trailers parked in open fields. Electric and water at every site. Sewer or "honey wagon" service provided for all. There is something to do every minute of every day. Don't plan to be spending a lot of time in your trailer or on your campsite .

Cate&Rob We have never been to a rally. I imagined it would be different than camping. The playpen is a last line of of defense for escapees mostly. If we get a slot, there will be a lot of new experiences for us. Right now you could say we are camping on 47 acres. So a fairground may be a bit of a shock.

It's not the fairgrounds...it's the trains that will be a shock. Never ending, horn-blasting trains. (The racket becomes background noise as it tends to blend in with all the "normal" ambient sounds they are so frequent.)

I used to work in office on the second floor with 50 feet between us and the next building and 75 feet from the main north-south line for CSX. We averaged 64 freight trains a day, plus Amthrax. It was nothing for me to have to stop phone conversations multiple times to let trains pass. We often had trains stop on the alternate line to allow another to pass. I maintained an IC notebook specifically for crossing collisions until it was "commandeered by a Sheriff's Office Lieutenant just after a Amthrax train collided with an oversize load hung up on the tracks. I never got that notebook back and he got promoted to Captain!

I used to sleep in my office from time to time. even Ambien and Benedryl didn't drown most of them out. Somewhere I have a great CD of near misses on our 4 crossings. A few even involved our people.

Agree... when we stayed there, we counted 30+ trains per hour at certain times of the day. It's incessant. As Howard said, though, you become conditioned to it.

"How often does the train go by? "So often you won't notice it."

Maybe it would be a good idea to find a train sound app and go to bed with my headphones on in order to condition me for the rally ?

fyi Rally sold out in about 10 minutes. We got in and feel very, very fortunate. DW's FB acct (and other forum not to be named) blown up with comments by frustrated people unable to secure a spot.

Rally is NOT sold out. There is some sort of disconnect between EventBrite and PayPal, and there are many frustrated would-be attendees (me included) who have spent more than 3 hours trying to secure tickets. I've had at least 6 or 8 tickets in my cart, but every time I go to pay I get an error message. So the tickets are in someone's cart for 30 min. while we try to pay, which makes it look as though there are no tickets available. They then get released and someone else snags them and tries to pay. Wish they would just close registration until they fix the problem so all of us would have a fair shot at getting in.

Andi - apparently credit cards are acceptable too. This was shared elsewhere. Apparently not very clear or stated at all that CCs can be used ?
