This can be technical. ....How many pink salmon fillets can fit in the fridge/freezer of a 220RK?
Pretty sure someone has been wondering.

Throw out the store bought stuff and keep the fish.

Otherwise, Buy a small apt refrigerator, set on lowest setting (which will freeze), pack with fish and water bottles. As you need room remove water bottles. It will stay frozen for 1 day of travel while not plugged in. Mom and Dad's friends did this on their way to Alaska with his home beef (due to medical issues with store bought stuff).

You can have the fillets freeze dried and then shipped home to someone you trust not to eat them before you return. The first two steps, freeze dried and shipped, are fairly easy. The third step not so much.

Hi Keith,

Good to learn that your "technical issues" are minor . . . looks like the trip is turning into everything you hoped it would be.

Sorry to read about the credit card and cell phone difficulties in Canada. FWIW the problem goes both ways . . . we have encountered similar difficulties with Canadian cards and phones in the US . . . despite assurances from Canadian banks and phone companies that there would be "no problems". Your backup plans worked and that is the important thing.

Back to the current question . . . be sure to check with Canadian Customs about bringing fresh frozen fish across the border. I have no idea whether this is currently allowed or not allowed . . . you just don't want a big surprise with a fridge full of excellent catch. And then . . . you will be bringing these same fish from Canada to the US with no proof that they were caught in Alaska . . . that could be another problem.

Yoda - There should be a couple of places that can pack them frozen and ship to your home addy (or to a trusted friend that you can get them from later).

Good idea on the customs check. I can ship direct from here if needed, but pricey. As for proof of catch I can probably get that from the boat captain.

What did you find out about bring Alaskan fish into Canada and then to US? I’m going halibut finishing in Valdez on the 9th

I talked to a family member who is employed with CBSA, and he told me that you should have no problem carrying a limit of fish through Canada with one caveat. It is the limit of the Canadian province you are traveling through. For example, if Alaskan limit is 5 fish and the BC limit is three fish, you can only transport three fish per license in your fridge while transiting the province.

Per the Canada custom site it's 40 kilo's if I read it correctly. That a little over 88 lbs. If you find anything different please let me know. Maybe ask your captain. If I am lucky I plan to have it vacuum packed and frozen before I put it in the RV freezer. The other stuff there now will go into the cooler on ice. The cooler I got at Walmart (Lifetime) is very good at holding ice for at least 5 days and that is just a bag - not packed full of ice which is the recommended way. BTW - Where are you staying in Valdez?
