I have one of those long heavy duty extension poles and a few Y brackets from the work bench (supports boards at a 45). Maybe a bit of duct tape and tying it to my truck might give it some stability. No trees big enough on the place yet. Or use my 16' ladder and place it underneath. You got me thinking and that is dangerous.

    Thanks Jim

      Hi Keith,

Have you considered detaching the rolled awning from the arms and either let it hang down the side of the trailer or keep it rolled up by tying the ends to something on the roof or across the roof to something on the other side? The arms have gas struts so these will need to be either zip-tied closed or relaxed slowly. It would seem to me that this project would be easier to accomplish with the arms and brackets completely removed from the trailer wall.

With it extended the struts and weight of awning actually help for all but the top screws. The bow is reduced. In fact the cold weather has helped too, cutting the gap in half. Tomorrow looks like a good day to try. We will be between fronts so winds should be calm. However when I get the ladder set up I will check out your suggestion.

I'm following your project closely. I'll start on mine when I return from the Southern Cal rally in a couple of weeks.
