Scott'n'Wendy I will be the first to admit that numbering systems make zero sense. 150 or 1500 class trucks are not rated for 1500 lbs, nor is a 250 or 2500 rated for 2500 lbs, and the 350 and 3500 well there are 2 configurations of those and neither is rated for 3500 lbs.
I can go on for days about cranes. The newer ones are much better at capacity than the older ones for naming, but even then there are MFG out there who label machines buy the top hat method. If they gave the moment capacity of the crane that might make sense, but not really as that changes based on setup.
Class 8 equipment...... NO COMMENT as none of that even remotely makes sense.
But I do agree that labeling something such that it's numbers indicate intended capacity make much more sense. BUT why make sense when you can make confusion.Joseph
