Beachcamper -- received the SS Fuel Gen 2.1 CP4 Disaster Prevention Kit (DPK) today. I ordered it from Xtreme Diesel Performance (authorized dealer). I didn't trust what I'd get from Amazon.
My local mechanic at Gulf Breeze Automotive (in Gulf Breeze, Florida) is going to install it next week along with the lower "cold side pipe" that's coming (hopefully) from SPE. (Snyder has been extremely slow in filling the order.)
I'll update later next week on total costs. I know it will be expensive, but way less than the inconvenience and expense if the CP4 blew due to contaminated fuel (along with the entire fuel system, injectors, etc). I consider it "insurance" and will be glad if I never have to write "so glad I had the DPK installed".Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. howson - It sure gives me piece of mind to have those parts on my truck while I'm towing. If you watched the video where they deliberately destroyed a CP4 and ran with the DPK installed it was eye opening. They were able to drive much farther than without it. This will allow you to at least get off the road if the CP4 goes south.

Beachcamper -- the cold side pipe showed up just in time! The truck is getting modded tomorrow morning. Not that I'd know any difference, but it looks like a quality part from Snyder Performance Engineering (SPE).

Kit is installed. A bit of drama as I found a (small) fuel leak after getting the truck home. Turned out there was a nicked o-ring on a return line that didn't reveal itself on their test drives. All taken care of, so no harm no foul.
All told the preventative maintenance has cost just over $1,100. That includes the cold side pipe, the DPK kit, and ~$600 for labor.
Was (is) it worth that much money? In the case of the cold side pipe, the one that came off the truck looks good to my eyes. However, when I first mentioned to the mechanic I was looking to get the line replaced his response was, "you mean the one that always blows?". So...worth it (to me) to not have the issue on the road. The old one is with me in the truck--maybe I can help someone else with it.
The DPK? If there's a CP4 failure it will be easily pay for itself (having the kit installed). Since I plan on keeping this truck until the wheels fall off (or I stop RV'ing) it's "insurance" and peace of mind against a possible wildly expensive repair and, if nothing else, minimize the downtime and all the related expenses a failure will incur.
Howard
P.S. A special thanks to TucsonJim for letting me know about these issues.Forum moderators are not GD employees--we are volunteers and owners presumably just like yourself. I know it's pricey Howard, but it sure gives me piece of mind that if the CP4 fails, it won't cost me $12K+ to get it fixed. BTW, I think I mentioned that my cold side pipe let loose when the truck was still under warranty. It barely ran until enough to nurse it to the dealership.

howson I plan to also get it done. As much as I hate owning this truck it’s what I need for towing. New ones are too much money so better keep this one as long as possible. Can you share your mechanic info if you recommend them? The other I called do not know so prefer one that is recommended.
The filter you pointed to, does that need to be replaced every so many miles? What was your mechanics opinion on adding this?Last edited by Beachcamper; 07-14-2023, 05:43 PM.Vivian

The shop is Gulf Breeze Automotive. Info here: https://gulfbreezeautomotive.com/
The service manager / advisor's name is AJ. The specific mechanic was a young guy I met briefly whose name is Mike.
I'm not thrilled there was an issue that I had to find (but they did fix without any fuss), they've worked on my truck now on multiple occasions and this was the first time there's been any type of problem. Since I was in aircraft maintenance for so many years, sometimes things happen when there's people in the process so not sure how much weight to put on this one "oopsie".
There's other minor things that aren't worth mentioning 'cause it's just me being me. So do I recommend them? Yes, but with some (minor) reservations.
Howard
