  • 5er Hitch Head Jaws

Now that I have upgraded trucks....

Old Pullrite Superglide does not fit the new spacing (thanks GM for changing that).

I really like that I can reach to unlatch the Pullrite head even able to reach the area where I put the break Away as the lock.

On others such as the B&W how hard is it to reach the lock on the latch from the ground without climbing into the bed?

Also, on say the B&W with the Jaws, does the handle swing toward the side as you back in? Does it auto latch the king pin (kinda spoiled by listening to the Pullrite system sliding into position)?

How is the Head retained on the B&W onto the 2 plastic looking pivot points? I see the pin, but not a lot of information on what actually retains it.

I will probably have more questions as answers are posted, so please be patient with my level of inquisitiveness.

Also, has anyone seen or owned one of these things? https://www.blueox.com/product/bxr2410/

I do like the B&W head as a design with the way the load is transmitted to the pivot points. I also think it's lighter than the Pullrite (approx 100 lbs without the head).

You don't have to climb in the bed but a stool makes it easier. I often I step up on the tire. (To lock it open, not to lock it closed)
Yes the handle swings to the side and jaws close. You just have to drop the pin or lock into the hole to lock the handle there.
The pin you see on the head are just to lock the handles you see on each side. Those handles release the head from the pivots when you lift up on them. With those pins in place, the handles can't lift.

My B&W the handle swings towards the cab not towards the bedside, non slide model but I think all of them are the same. When hitching the handle does swing back to the lock position and does make a "noise" but it is quieter than my previous Reese, which the handle pulled out towards the bedside and slid back to the hitch head with a louder noise. It was nice of GM to change the bed mounting points which caused me to buy the B&W which I think is a better hitch than the previous Reese model that I had. Scott is right regarding the pin and handles that hold the hitch head on. The only thing that I do not like about the B&W is it has less articulation compared to the previous Reese model but is a much more solid mounting hitch with less "chucking" noise while traveling.

At 5-7, I'm elevation challenged. I can reach the B&W Companion handle from the ground, but to pin it in place, I need a boost. So I carry a small foldable step.

The B&W Companion is the only one I have experience with. I opted for the extended running boards on my 2022 F350 so that makes it easy to operate. B&W is located in Kansas just a couple hours SE of me, they also offer a Veterans discount, which I definitely support companies that support Veterans. I started out with a Companion I bought on FB Marketplace, then a guy in NB wanted to get rid of his slider so we swapped out bases and some cash. Like I said, no experience with any other brand, but don’t think I would opt for anything other than maybe a GEN Y.

I actually called B&W before purchasing mine. Indeed, they offer a veteran's discount, but the person I talked to informed me that I'd save about $75 by purchasing from eTrailer vs. their site, even with the discount.

I bought the lifter attachment from B&W, great idea and worked great. Like I said, mine both came off of FB Marketplace.
