  • Truck Bed Size for 2019 320GKS

    Purchased a 2019 GKS.
Have to replace tow truck and was wondering if anyone is pulling this model with a 6.5ft bed without a slide hitch.

Welcome to the forum. Are you sure on that model number? I've heard of a 320MKS, but I've never seen a 320GKS from Grand Design. Another manufacturer makes a 320GKS. If it's a 320MKS, let me know and I'll edit your post.

If you are talking about a 320 MKS, we have a 2021 320 MKS but we tow with an F-350 full size 8 foot bed. Makes for a challenge finding parking when sightseeing sometimes, but nice to not worry about the back window in a tight turn

Cant help much on the short bed compatibility, but keep in mind the fuel tank size on the SB is smaller and can make a big difference. For example Ford short bed is 36gal and 8' long bed is 48gal.. I believe the other brands are similar. That extra 12Gal has made a difference a few times.

My brother in law has a short (standard) bed and uses a manual sliding hitch. According to him he doesn’t use the sliding capability.
When we had a fifth wheel, we had a Super Glide automatic sliding hitch. I went with better safe than sorry.
Never had a concern about cab to trailer contact. Might be a good idea if you don’t have much experience with a fifth wheel.
Hindsight, I would probably go with the longer bed for the reasons Yoda mentioned. Parking will be more of a challenge than a standard bed.

Just some random guidance on parking a dually with 8' bed:

Plan on parking away from the doors of whatever business you're visiting. Usually there is a better choice of spaces further away from the door. Side benefit is that the extra steps help with the daily workout.

Plan on taking at least two spaces, SHMBO likes to take four to make sure the doors can be fully opened, and she has more turning room when leaving.

Look for spaces you can pull through, then pull all the way through so that the rear tires are on dividing line between the two spaces. If not, someone is a compact car will park in front of the truck.

If can't find pull through parking, try to back into the space. The tail of the bed will overhang the sidewalk or curb or whatever is behind the truck (use caution not to back into post, trees, walls, etc.) but IMO this is better than having the tail sticking out into the traffic lane.
