Hello everyone,
My wife & I are about to purchase our first 5th wheel, 2021 303RLS and are researching hitch options.
To help better inform our decision & not rely on a dealer, we'd like those of you actually using the Andersen Ultimate Hitch or Reese Goosebox 16K Air Ride Adapter for Lippert 1621 pinbox for your experiences.
We will tow with a 2020 Ram 2500 6.7L cummins, with OEM 5th wheel puck system.
Truck measurements to identify potential clearance issues:
Ground to Top Tailgate 59". Truck Bed to Top SideRails: 20.5". Center gooseneck ball to tailgate: 41". Center gooseneck ball to cab: 34.5"
Andersen Ultimate Questions:
-What ball height setting do you use & how much clearance does that setting provide for siderails/tailgate?
-Which direction is the kingpin coupler block facing?
-Under the above configuratiobn, is the trailer level for towing?
-How much tailgate & sidereal clearance when TV & trailer are level?
-Have you had any issues with cap to cab clearance? If so, at what degree turn?
-How is the overall towing ride quality?
Reese Goosebox Questions:
-What turnover ball are using & what is it's height? Is it an offset ball? (I'm looking at the B&W w/handle @ e-trailer)
-How much tailgate & sidereal clearance have you seen when TV & trailer are level?
-Have you had any issues with cap to cab clearance? If so, at what degree turn?
-How is the overall towing ride quality?
-In your experience, is achieving a 90degree turn really necessary?
-If you've used both a hitch & then Reese Goosebox, how does the ride quality compare?
Thank you very much for your time and inputs; we truly appreciate it & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Matt & Sadie
p.s. We will not be purchasing a large, heavy standard or slider hitch so no need to comment on those...or the ability of our "10K LB rated truck" to handle the 303.
p.p.s. Howard: We will update our signature block as soon as we actually have our RV!
