  • Steep slope, any suggestions?

Any suggestions on how to get the truck's receiver to line up more evenly with hitch? Steep driveway slope puts front tires way lower, causing angle of hitch to push down on receiver, it has actually bent the metal. We are as far back as we can go and cost-prohibitive to gravel more on front side. Have resorted to ramps under front tires to even out 7% incline. Just wondering if there are any other solutions.

Remove gravel from where the truck rear tires are.

Other than ramps can you create a level pad to the side of the drive (angled off) ? Otherwise I think you using the only solution.

No easy solution. Where I park my travel trailer, the ground slopes down. So I built some some ramps to attempt to keep it level, as shown in the picture. Click image for larger version

You could lift the rear of the trailer with ramps . . . although this would mean storing on a slope. Not necessarily bad . . . unless you need to open the slides.

Jimmer So what you are saying is the hitch point is basically at the top of the hill?

Options are to remove material under the rear tires of the TV, or elevate the steer tires or trailer tires. Is it possible to remove material between the trailer tires and the rear tires of the TV? Have you checked the camper / TV setup on level ground to see that the trailer is level? Your hitch may be too high adding to the issue.

Get a second receiver with a significant drop to use just to drop the tongue, hook up and move to flat ground then swap back to the normal receiver. Not cheap but may work.

Thanks everyone! We considered digging out gravel under rear tires of TV but that would mean pushing the trailer up out of this "trough" as we back up the slope. Looks like ramps under front tires will have to work, told hubby I will just have to get over my rampophobia. Jimmer, yours look super-safe!

First, my apologies, I've never posted before so this may be in the wrong place. Any help on starting a new thread would be helpful. Now my question: I'm considering parking and storing my 22MLE on my sloped driveway. Extending the tongue jack all the way nearly gets the TT level. Will long term storage like this be a problem?

That should not be a problem, you could use some more blocking under the jack so it does not extend so far.

Welcome to the forum! If you do put blocking to help take up some of the height, just don't put too much. You want to be able to still lower the tongue enough to get it back on the ball. Using too much blocking can mean the tongue won't come down enough when you go to hitch up, then you end up having to use a jack to lift the trailer tongue enough so you can get the blocks out from under the tongue jack...... so I've heard anyways

One other thing to consider, depending on all the angles involved, think about undoing the WDH bars before backing the trailer up driveway. If the trailer is on the driveway pointing down, and the truck is sitting on the level road, the WDH bars are wanting to keep the two vehicles aligned and will start lifting the back of your truck up while pulling your trailer frame down. If the angle is large enough, it could make un-hitching more difficult and can bend your hitch pin. Again, so I've heard.....

X2. Ramps will work and will allow less blocking to be used on the front jack. For connecting the bars, it would be best to do this down the drive to a more level location. Remove the bars before backing into the parking spot.

Bill_fi When you set the camper for long term storage, do a few thinks as if it were being setup for camping. Use of chocks (X chocks may be better), extending stabilizers, etc to assist as much as possible from letting the tongue jack while fully extended from carrying any additional loads from the elements (especially wind). Un hook the WDH and use as much blocking under the tongue jack as possible (Suspension sag of the TV will help in getting hooked back up later) again to avoid the tongue jack from taking any elemental loads when extended so much.

With the right skills and equipment, good friends, or local rig welder, modification of something similar to https://www.sumner.com/sumner/sub/pr....9.29.0.0.html to put the necessary ball size on top something like this or similar could be modified to assist in helping with stabilizing the tongue for helping an hyper extended jack survive (my opinion for what it's worth).
