Actually the new Allison in the GM is GM designed and Allison Certified. GM has been building the Allison for their HD trucks in house for a while either using Allison parts, or Allison designs. The new 10 speed is the only one that was not Allison designed.

Similar to the Duramax. It started as an Isuzu designed engine, but has since been tweaked and GM only input the last few revisions. Built in the Duramax plant (owned by GM).

If I had to guess it's all a tax game.

On the Aisin there are other issues in the low end. Don't remember what they are off hand, but if you compare the diameters of the trans housing on the Aisin (Allison rip off) you will notice almost immediately that it is (or was) much smaller in diameter. Smaller diameter means smaller diameter clutches, which means they either need more pressure or they hold less power.

Unfortunately my transmission guy passed this year. He was a wealth of knowledge on all of the big 3 trans. If he said making it hold power was a problem, he was usually on the bleeding edge of parts development to make it hold the power.
If I have time today, I will take a picture of my box truck transmission (pretty sure it's an Allison) and my Aisin from my Ram.

You can definitely feel the trans limiting power in the first 2 gears on the Aisin and the shift into 3rd gear. Once in 3rd gear she pulls hard. Sometimes I don't realize how fast I am going because it pulls up top so good.

I notice after I unhook the trailer that the truck feels like it is putting down way more power, for a short while. Usually after that first trip. It must be tuned to provide more power while towing. My 2500 did this too. At the end of the day I don't NEED 1500 tq at idle. Sure it would be nice, but so is accelerating and not roasting the tires. I never even tried driving my 3500 with TC off. Now I am curious.

I did tune my 2500. It was a night and day difference. I don't know how much of it was removing the torque limiting factor or how much was from increasing the boost. Off the line power was significantly better. Better to the point that I would surprise quite a few cars with it if I launched in 4WD. There was a V6 Rav4 Sport that used to race me off the light every morning. He would woop my butt. If you know anything about those, they are pretty quick little suvs. 6.3s 0-60 and mid 14 second quarter mile times. After the tune I was edging him out, which means my almost 9K lb ram was likely high 5s 0-60 and probably dipping into the 13s for the 1/4. It was a lot of fun, until I blew the 68rfe trans. Luckily Ram repaired it under warranty, and I just had to take it easy in 1st gear after that :( My 3500 is stock and drives like a semi truck in comparison. The Aisin trans is 100% better for towing though.

        Joseph,

These were joint ventures similar to the light duty 10 speed jointly designed by Ford and GM to reduce development cost. To your point, sometimes there are tweaks for example, the GM light duty 10 speed gets higher marks in drive quality with mostly identical hardware but completely different software.

GM can tell if a tune is applied to their trucks even if the original cal is re-installed. It boils down to playing the lotto if the dealer will warranty a claim after looking at the calibration record in the ECU.

Isnt the 10 speed in the GM (the faux Allison) and the 10 speed in the Ford, the result of a collaborative effort similar to the NVG new venture gear in the past ?
I would take a 1000 series Allison 6 speed over the new ones every day of the week.

I am sure they all can. I was missing all my emissions from my Ram and they still warrantied it. I was fully expecting to pay for a new one. I have always tuned all my turbo cars in the past(VWs, BMWs). Maybe I am getting too old to worry about a non warranty claim. My Trackhawk, this Ram, and my M340 are all 100% stock which is rare for me. I will say with the newer transmissions and power outputs I don't even feel the need to tune them like past cars.

If my research was correct before I ordered my truck, the last bed height change for the F350 8'bed was back in 2017 and has stayed the same (From Bed-rug site), Supposedly in 2020 they lowered the suspension 1.5" to 2" (From Duraflap site), Now I know comparing to my 04 is not perfect, but my 2022 squats more (about 2") for the same load making up for the initial height gain. In looking at the springs, it appears to have a much longer compressive range. Now I don't now if there was a change for 2023. Maybe a question for the Ford truck Forms.

                  Hi Scott,

The F350 suspension is really soft at the upper end . . . I presume to soften "empty truck" ride. In my 2014 HDPP F150, I would reduce tire pressure to get a reasonable ride when empty or lightly loaded. This is not necessary on the 2022 F350.

Rear suspension compresses 3" with the weight of the Reflection 303RLS, on either truck. Top of tailgate: From 58" to 55" on the 2022 F350. From 57" to 54" on the 2014 F150.

I lower the tire pressure in my 18 for both ride comfort and traction in wet conditions. At recommended inflation rear traction is a joke, heavy dew and I can light up the tires. What's really bad is the min threshold on the rear tires is above good wet traction unloaded.
