For the most part, our travels have been fairly smooth when using the interstate highway system. Road repairs and reconstruction are inevitable, but in our limited time towing an RV, we’ve come across at least two sections of the interstate highway system that we want to avoid on future travels - even if it means a lengthy detour.
The first is IH 20 through Shreveport and Bossier City. Saying the highway is rough is like saying a hurricane is a light breeze. When going east again, we plan to try IH 220 to avoid the worst part through downtown.
Returning from our most recent trip, we found that the right lane of IH 40 from Williams, AZ to the Texas state line rattled our nerves as much as our trailer. We were lucky to have periods of no traffic when we could use the smoother left lane without slowing any other eastbound traffic.
These sections of interstate have been in bad condition for years and are not likely to be reconstructed in the foreseeable future. I would like to hear others least favorite sections of interstate highways. When it comes to towing a trailer across rough roads, I think Charlie Daniels was on to something:
”I think I'm gonna re-route my trip.
I wonder if anybody'd think I'd flipped,
If I went to LA via Omaha!“
