I obviously can’t speak for Ford, but Chevrolet recommended top tier diesel or use the GM fuel conditioner. As for the def fluid I get it from the dealer until the warranty is out. If a problem does come up hopefully that will eliminate any contamination arguments.

I have had diesels that needed DEF since 2016, and have always run the Walmart brand with no issues. If I am on the road, I will get the DEF off the pump. I just make sure the date on the container at the Walmart in not old, and although I think it only may have happened several times, in the store I will take the cap off and check to see if the cardboard cap is on and glued down. All DEF have to meet the same specs, and for me, the "premium", or dealer specific are just added snake oil.2021 GD Momentum 320G 8K Axle

Wileykid I made the mistake of hanging on to the 04 too long. My first diesel was a 1995 7.3 IDI. It was a beast. Manual 4 speed.. I always carried a 17mm socket and wrench along with the cam position sensor (its only flaw) in the glove box. I learned to get them from the IH dealer as they were 1/4 the cost of Ford. The IH 444 commercial engine used the same one. Sometimes I kick myself for getting trading it, but kids came along and I needed the CC to keep them happy (separate bucket seats.)
This will be my first DEF diesel with all of the electronics. MY 04 had none of this, so lets say the old fogy (sore head) is on for one heck of a new learning curve. I am lucky that SWMBO knows a whole lot more than I do on the information screens. Her 2016 Escape has one and it drives me nuts at times.

I have my fingers crossed my truck is on the lower shipping rack of a transport given the storm pattern it might have driven through - or do they go by enclosed rail cars? All the way to where you are, will almost certainly be by enclosed rail car.
Agreed that Midwest weather (where we are at the moment ) is a major concern for the next 24 hours.
