From my understanding (discussion on diesel board transmission section moderated by one of the best trans guys in the country), Ford and GM collaborated on the 10 speed that is in the F150 and the Camaro. Both sides benefitted from this collaboration. GM took what they learned, designed the new 10 speed behind the Duramax, then had Allison validate (they made changes before putting their name on it) the design before it could wear the Allison Badge. Ford took the same information and used parts of it to design the 10 speed behind the Power Stroke.

The F150/Camaro transmission from what I understand internally is identical. The SD/HD (Ford/GM) transmission does not have interchangeable parts.

Looking back....GM does not torque limit (traction control is a different function) their version of the 10 speed and uses their own proprietary controls. The GM SD trans has tighter tolerances on some components.

Nope - I traded it in for the down on the new truck - it was telling me when we got back from the Georgia trip that something major was about to happen (trans growling/vibration, etc). I got 8K out of it (low side of KBB - but OK), but the paint was a total mess, and interior well worn. It was also 1K higher than the other dealers. I can move the trailer around my place with my compact tractor and no trips planed otherwise.

As for 2022 model year, were within about 3 months of the normal yearly production end month (usually June the order bank closes) Still scheduled for next week build........but by saying that I probably jinxed myself. And with fuel costs where they are I might make money if the dealer fills the tank like they normally do. I have a price lock too (X plan). I was very lucky to get that as the dealer is no longer offering it again. So that was probably taken into account on the trade value too.

Cate&Rob Rob - Thanks for the thought on the lag. MY 6.0 had it big time (could count to 4 starting off the line before any real throttle response) , and would barely move for a few minutes when cold (below 32F) Hopefully Ford has cured that issue with the 6.7.

The good news on the 10 speed, per the dealer shop manager they are seeing few if any issues as long as normal service is done (they like clean oil). Night and day better than the 6 speed predecessor. They service a huge amount of oil field rigs (F350 and F450) with the typical cargo/service boxes, and you know how gently they are all driven.

With the 04 6.0 I used the tow/haul a lot in the hills, unfortunately no engine brake, so I had a lot of warped rotor issues. Looking forward to the engine brake feature and the bigger truck brakes. I think they are 45% bigger and heavier duty than what came on my old 04 truck.

The only Black Friday accessory that has not come yet is my Bed Rug impact bed mat. It's been back ordered sense Nov. Supposed to ship by the end of the month. That's OK as I will need warm weather to install as I need to cut out the puck openings. New pricing is about 25% higher than when I ordered it. My Retrax Pro bed cover is sitting in the living room where I left it after killing myself bringing it in the house.

Thanks for the good thoughts folks.

Spent all my time with traction off in a ZR1 (strictly prohibited for most) since this would interfere with engine controls. However after we launched it, I read an article where the LS9 at 638 Hp would smoke the tires at 70 mph while doing a 6-3 downshift. Thought, that car will not do that and when I tried it, it lit up the rear tires at 70 instantly. I guess it was the only maneuver I didn't do in testing. lol

Rob I know you remember the 16% hill where I ran a diesel truck up and was pinned in the seat with a huge smile. Got to love torque even if its in a truck.

Although similar manifestations, here is a definite difference between t-lag and torque management. According to Cummins, without t-management, they will all break driveline components now.
Turbo lag in the '80's was horrible. Nowadays, with lighter units, it is relatively imperceptible.

Hmmm. I would be concerned about that if I had either vehicle. Very different vehicles.

Ford and GM co-developed the base 10 speed then split off on the final versions. So they are the same base design and powerflow but are different. in there detailed final designs.

Folks may not realize the Ford and GM has shared many transmissions. One Ford 8 speed is a GM nine speed minus one gear and a pseudo GM six speed as well. Development cost is becoming so expensive, it makes sense to share resources.

Remember AMC? They were made up from parts from every domestic maker.

Things have improved since then thankfully. Cars back then were not so powerful. Backing down would be interesting as well.

Where is the 16* incline? I would like to be aware of where it is...

Its in a private test facility where Rob and I used to work. They had a 27% hill also. lol

Rob, times have changed where the 4 cylinder cars (manual trans) had to launch on that hill to cert for Europe.

                        Getting off track. Sorry.

Ha ha..ok. Reminds me of when we went from Rapid City SD, to Cody, Wyoming. We thought, hey, just hang a left at Sheridan. The GPS showed a winding road. I thought it went along a river.....well it was zigzagging up into the bighorn mountains...wow. Made it without issue but was a total surprise...cuz we didn't research our route.....no 27* inclines though....

Vehicles continue to improve, have more features, pollute less with more power and torque from just from one year ago. The future is exciting in thinking what we will be driving 10 years from now, where I'm hoping we transition at a reasonable pace. Wife had a Vega years ago that may have been the model that would not climb the 16% hill years ago. Today, a turbo 4 cylinder car at a minimum is around 160Hp with good torque and can tow a 19Ft trailer in Europe up a 7.2% hill. And is much cleaner on the environment.

ICE equipped vehicles are still the best bet for hauling and towing heavy loads.

Guest -- funny, I liked the Vega ('course I was a young 'un at the time). No idea who the young lady is...too many years ago.

Sorry we're so far OT, Keith. Hope you don't mind... Yoda

No worries Howard. Its good to take a trips down memory lane. Keeps the mind fresh. A good friend named Larry I ran around with in high school dad owned a salvage yard. Larry seemed to have a different car every month that he and his dad parted together - most did not run long
Senior year he stuffed a small block Chevy V8 into a wrinkled Vega. Now that was a fun ride - until he got too many tickets His grades were not the best and ended up in Nam as a door gunner on Huys (sp). Survived and stayed in and ended up as a full Colonel in logistics (after becoming a top secrete flight mechanic) He finally retired a few years back (he did not want too). The last time we met he had his family in a custom Hummer. Said his hot rod days were over, and winked at me. He also had a Sunbeam Tiger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunbeam_Tiger No starter so we had to push it and jump in at the lights. We 4 amigos had a great time cruising in that. Now that was a fast ride.

Now to get back on track my Bed Rug impact bed mat finally shipped today (ordered Black Friday)). and so far truck still should be built next week. So I have everything I need now - just need the new truck. Oh - one important thing - I will need a new name. It's star white. (Anything that starts with Moby is out) My old brown dually was called Thumper - It changed to Turd. to put it kindly on the last trip - hope it OK to say that. There were three capital letters in front of that name (acronym) I wont say here.

Do other folks here name thier trucks and trailers? LOL- just remembered Mom calling dads Airstream "Tag-A-Long" when we were young kids (4 to 8). I don't think he liked it as he made strange faces at her and muttered. (5 of us in a Bambi) I always got the floor.

                                Happy Memories
