Agreed that Midwest weather (where we are at the moment ) is a major concern for the next 24 hours.

That would be awesome to prevent rail dust.

Ugh, rail dust, brake dust, brake fall out, etc. All things I wish I knew about before we purchased my wife's vehicle in white. Oh well, a little IronX clears it up, but this is why we got our truck in black. It still technically should be treated with IronX, but at least you don't notice all those little 'rust spots'

        Hi Keith,

Make sure that you see the last post of this thread for why your trailer brakes won't work unless the dealer completes the software update !!
        https://gdrvowners.com/towing-and-hi...warnings/page3

Frustrating that I have towed some 3000 miles, wondering if or when I might have functioning trailer brakes. Checked everything over and over on the trailer side . . . because . . . the problem couldn't be my brand new Superduty truck .

I saw that. Good thing the fix is easy and you don't need to wait on parts. Hopeful mine got built with the fix, but I will make sure it is done before I pick up the truck. If you get yours done sooner I know you will post the outcome. Have you ordered your new hitch yet?

          Thanks for the heads up

Iron X works. The old method was a clay bar and tons of elbow grease but the Iron X looks like a nice solution. I like both colors where white hides well in dirty conditions.

Hopefully the dealer will do a proper wash before I get it - they did on the wife's Escape Even if they do what should I be looking for to determine if I should uses Iron X?

              • With all the vehicles I've had, I've never seen effects of iron particles penetrating the finish. Even when living near a steel foundry.

Washing alone will not remove rail dust or brake fallout, you need to either use IronX or like Guest said clay bar. That being said, certainly look closely on the vehicle when you pick it up new, and if you see any, they maybe willing to do a fallout treatment. That is the correct product, and to know if you need to use it, look around the lower portion of the vehicle for tiny little rust colored spots, particularly around the wheels. Search rail dust or brake fallout for examples of what to look for.

Edit: I don't think IronX is 'wax safe, so you'll want to wax the vehicle after using. I know one dealership here does not combine fallout treatment and waxing, so if you get them to do it, make sure they wax after too.

                    That looks like it Keith.

Its not a big deal so not trying to tarnish your new prize. It happens to all vehicles shipped via open rail where white shows the particles more so than other colors. The Iron X will take care of it so no worries.

Rail dust is the iron dust created from steel on steel contact (and or metallic brake dust on application) and under immense pressure on the rail.

Does anyone know what this really means? It been sitting at the Kentucky rail yard for several weeks now.

                      • If I was going to guess, and it's just a guess..I would think it's allocating loaded train cars going in a specific direction. Like they are either waiting for a train car to load, or waiting for one already allocated to be filled up with autos before sending off in your direction.

You got black because it hides dirt and imperfections?!?!? I've never heard a person say that before.
My truck is black and it looks fantastic when clean. But you can tell it's not clean the day after you wash it. It shows everything. We must have different dirt up here in Canada....lol

Thanks for the mention of IronX...I'lll look into it. Edit...It's certainly not cheap.

                            Hi Keith,
I wonder if Ford is waiting for some part to catch up to your truck? There are storage yards and even dealer lots with thousands of new vehicles waiting for sub-systems delayed because of the computer chip shortage.

I got black because it doesn't show the road fallout like white does, but you are right, the color doesn't stay clean for super long. The other reason I went for black was because I thought it would match the trailer the best, since it was black / white / grey.

Not sure if we have different dirt in Canada, but maybe we are more special in Alberta . I wouldn't be surprised though if we have different road treatments for ice that may look different on the paint. I know one municipality here changed the road treatment and vehicles were rusting out at an alarming rate, and I believe they had to revert. Thankfully it wasn't were I am based.

                              • What treatment was causing the rust?

In Ohio they are using more liquid options and pre-treat the roads where the mixture dries on the road before the snow falls. But those here that use road salt, the roads after a storm are white with salt. Over the top.
